Animals Alphabet

Hoy voy a compartir mi segundo imprimible gratuito y, por primera vez, publicar un artículo en español e inglés.

Today, I share with you all my second free printable and, for the first time, I'm writing in Spanish and English.

El otro día, nos levantamos con ganas de trabajar las letras, así que nos sentamos en el ordenador y empezamos a trabajar en este imprimible.

The other day, we woke up in learning our letters mode, so we went to the computer and began working in this printable together.

En el cole, están trabajando con los nombres de los compañeros y aprendiendo la fonética española, así que en casa vamos a empezar a trabajar con animales para descubrir la fonética inglesa.

They are working with the classmates' names at school in order to teach them the Spanish phonics. So we are going to work with the animals to discover the English ones.

Mi intención es ir cambiando las palabras base con cierta regularidad, buscando un equilibrio entre tener referencias claras y tener un material motivante.

My idea is to change the words we use every now and then, trying to balance having clear good references with having a motivating material.

Esa es la razón por la que ha sido Pirañita quien ha elegido los dibujos y, en ocasiones, los animales también. De este modo, el material es suyo, hecho por ella misma, lo que añade un punto de motivación extra.

That's why Pirañita has been given the chance to choose the pictures and sometimes the animals too. This way it's her material, created by herself. That adds extra motivation to any activity in this house.

Una vez terminado, hemos imprimido y yo lo he recortado durante el desayuno. Pirañita casi no ha tocado el desayuno, porque quería seguir jugando con su nuevo material. Por tanto, le he dejado ayudarme a recortar.

When we have finished, we've printed the result, so that I could cut it during our breakfast. Pirañita has barely touched her food for she was excited about playing with her new.material. That's why I've invited her to join me cutting.

Primero, corte el papel sobrante y, después, separé la columna de dibujos de la de palabras. A continuación, le pedí que contara cuántos dibujos tenía. Cada vez que cortaba una palabra, le decía el nombre del animal y comatábamos por qué sonido empezaba. Después, le preguntaba cuàntos dibujos tenía y cuántos tendría si le quitaba uno. Una vez comprobado que no tenía problemas para restar uno, empezamos con dos. Al tres no llegamos.

First, I cut the spare paper and then I separated the line of pictures from the line of names. Then, I asked her count the number of pictures she had. Every time I cut a new name, I would tell her the name of the animal and we would talk about it's beginning sound. Right after that, I would ask her how many pictures did she have and how many would she have if I took one. When it was clear that she could sudtract one properly, I would ask for two. We never got to three however.

Con todo nuestro material listo, nos fuimos a la cocina, donde teníamos las fotos con los nombres de todos los compañeros (esto nunca os lo he enseñado por cuestiones de respeto a la privacidad de esos niños). Quitamos las fotos y nombres de los niños, y lo cambiamos por nuestros animales.

Once all the material was ready, we went to the kitchen, where we used to have the pictures and names of Pirañita's classmates (I've never shown these in the blog for privacy reasons). We removed all the pictures and names and subtituted them with our Animals Alphabet. Again, I would tell Pirañita the name of each animal and show her its beginning sound. It was a tiring activity after all the working morning, so we stopped when we were in the "turtle".

La tarde también ha estado marcada por el trabajo con letras, aunque eso lo dejaremos para otra entrada, que este post ya es bastante largo.

The evening has been also full of letters work, but we will leave it for a future post while this is already long enough.
